History

Albury Wodonga Dragon Boat Club ( Warriors ) held a open day on the  Saturday 16th of September 2017 to help promote 

Dragon Boat Paddling at Yarrawonga Yacht Club . Sandi Nickels then President of the Warriors together with Steve Haintz    Commodore of  Yarrawonga Yacht Club

were able to organize this day, with Thirteen paddlers from the Warriors attending and expressions of interest from the Yarrawonga Community it showed enough 

to warrant pushing ahead and form what is now today Known as 

Yarrawonga Yacht Club Dragon Boat Paddlers.

 

Dragon Boating started Offically at Yarrawonga Yacht Club on Saturday 23rd Of September 2017

A Dragon Boat Committee was formed in July of 2017  from the General Committee of Yarrawonga Yacht Club.

The Initial Committee Members were

Rod Riding  ( General Committee)

Kristine Deveny ( General Committee )       All sailing and committee members of the General Committee .

 Paddling Started on Saturday 23rd of September 2017 at 9.00am to 10.00am

Paddling Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5.00pm to 6.00pm

Our first paddling session started with 18 paddlers plus a Sweep and Drummer.

In our first year as paddlers we joined forces with Mt Beauty and entered a team in the Victorian Championships held at Gate Way Lakes Wodonga

From our original members Five took part they were Steve Haintz, Rebecca Gaffy, Margret Cousins, George Cousins, Gary True. and Graham Tarbit who came later in the year.

Where we came 4th in our first ever Regatta.

The club has since paddled consistently ever since on Lake Mulwala with paddling members able to cross over into sailing.

A second Dragon Boat was purchased from a Ballarat Dragon Boat Club and launched at the Yarrawonga Yacht Club on Tuesday evening  6/4/ 21  with the boat being blessed by The Archdeacon of Wangaratta and Rector of Yarrawonga Neil Hicks.
